Swim for Haiti Project Summary
This five year project addresses the need to develop basic swimming skills amongst Haitian children. In a first phase the five year project forty swimming teachers, coaches, lifesavers will be taught and accredited to international excepted swimming standards. Children will be taught to safely swim ten metres on their fronts and gain a comprehensive understanding of water safety. An equal number of girls and boys are expected to participate in all stages. Throughout the project duration an international team of open water and short distance swimmers will be established to represent Haiti at thee Pan-American, Olympic Games and the World Championships. |

About Ian Lyons
Ian Lyons is a British swimming coach living in Haiti. Prior coming to Haiti Ian worked in the UK as Head coach at Exeter University and at a large Swimming club in Devon, then moving to Mali as the National swim coach.
Continuing success followed in competitions: In Dubai 2010 and Shanghai 2011, Mali participated in the World Championships. At the West African Games in Senegal in 2010 out of eleven countries Mali finished third. In the African Games in Mozambique in 2011, Mali reached the finals.
In 2012 two athletes from Mali were selected and competed in the London Olympics.
