Swimmer FAQ
How should I prepare for the Swim?
For training, we suggest reviewing the useful guide from swimtrek.com here.
Jelly fish are the main hazard so we suggest wearing rash guards or light wetsuits.
Bring sunscreen! And you may also like to try the this anti-sting sunscreen.
Many swimmers swim with aids such as wetsuits, paddles, and fins. You are welcome to swim with aids.
Finally make sure you bring any food or drinks you would like to consume during the swim. Your fisherman will carry your items on the 10km swim to rehydrate and refuel during your swim.
We provide swim caps which are mandatory for safety purposes.
What is Swim for Haiti doing to ensure safety during the swim?
An extensive safety infrastructure will be in place in case of any emergencies. The fishermen in bwa fouye (dugout canoes) are the first line of prevention, providing you with supplies along the way. If there is an emergency, they carry whistles that can alert small motor boats supporting the canoes to come to assist. Each motor boat has a Emergency First Responder trained to address emergency situations. Several Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT’s) are on the boat and on land to assist in an emergency. Also, Hero Client Rescue, Haiti’s private 911 medical service, will be on standby on shore with an ambulance for transport to the nearest medical facility. Your swimmer fee includes coverage by HERO to provide medical assistance and transport.

Spectators, Supporters, and Party
Your friends and family can attend the event without swimming. They can meet you at arrival between 10 and noon at Wahoo Bay. The entry fee for the party (paid to Wahoo) is $30 and includes a simple buffet lunch. If you don't want lunch, then all-day access to Wahoo Bay Beach is $15 and all are welcome to join the party. Note that all swimmers who have paid their swimmer fees have party access already included.
Racing and Timing
Swimmers will be timed. Times for swimmers in two categories will be reported to the Global Swim Series rankings:
1. Aided — swimmers using fins and other swim aids
2. Unaided swims — swimmers without swim aids. Swimsuits are allowed in this category
Where and When should I show up?
Please REGISTER for the event at Wahoo Bay Beach Resort from 3pm - 6pm on Saturday, January 27th. If you are doing the short swim, you may also register the morning of the swim from 8-9am at Kaliko, but we advise that you do this earlier.
Please attend the SWIMMER BRIEFING briefing to be held at Wahoo Bay Beach Resort at 6pm on Saturday, January 28th. The briefing is mandatory for 10km swimmers and optional for 1.5km swimmers.
10km swimmers leave promptly by boat from Wahoo Bay the next morning (January 28th) at 6:30am to ensure a timely departure to the island. We advise you to be at Wahoo by 6:15am. The earlier we start, the more likely we will avoid rough conditions during the swim as the surf can pick up quickly in the morning.
1.5km swimmers should arrive at Kaliko before 9am on Sunday, January 28th. If you need to register, you can do so the day before at Wahoo Bay or that morning at Kaliko between 8-9am

GPS Tracking and doarama.com
All swimmers tracking their swim with GPS logging are encouraged to upload their tracklogs to DOARAMA.COM, a 3D visualization engine that will re-create the race with available tracklogs in an interactive animation. Droarama automatically senses that uploaded tracklogs from different people are in the same region at the same time and puts them automatically in the same event. It’s really cool. Check it out if you like this kind of stuff.
